Oil leak all over sump, and onto splash cover, but not anywhere else (ie cam cover etc)
Does this mean I need a new sump gasket?

I'm going to suggest that it is the front/crank seal.
Needs the pully, crank bolt and timing belt removed to get at it.

Yep, front main seal - replaced without doing much more than cam belt change
