So whats hiding in your engine?????

Ok, so still doing some sh*t before everything goes back together, when that's finished I clean, and I clean and I clean and I clean again, then
guess what I do it again and again.
WHY so much cleaning, have a look at what is hiding in the oil galleries,
That stuff you can see at the bottom is what was inside the head oil galleries, took out the allen headed plugs to find this. Now this
one isn't so bad, I've seen worse, but without stripping all the plugs/screws what ever there is no way of knowing what's in there
and certainly no way of cleaning it out. So armed with really long thin cleaning brushes and plenty of soapy water then brake clean, and air, lots of it.
If you don't, well for me its not worth thinking about. That crap could stuff your cams, head and big end and main bearing as well as the oil pump in about 2 seconds, remember once its dried out that crap can and will move about to where who knows??? In my engine that this head is from, thats $3000 US in parts + machining gone
BTW, when you go to take out the 6 plugs, use a good tight fitting allen key or socket, hold the head really well and push till it starts to move, they are fucken tight, and when you put it back together use aviation goo, the non hardening stuff on the threads on the plug, that will make sure its sealed.
Lesson over for today,
Terry
