chirping noise at 2k

My NA has developed a loud chirping noise that comes in at around 2k rpm, either moving or stationary. It's best heard when statioary in the garage, in neutral. Slowly bring revs up to about 2k & there it is. A bit like a constant cricket noise. However if I just touch the clutch pedal a tiny bit, the noise stops. It can also be heard when moving slowly along in 2nd gear. I think it's just engine/road noise that prevents it being heard at other times. It is definitely coming from the rear of the engine.

All clues will be greatly accepted.

Cheers

i have a very similar noise with my nb8b...and from researching posts i think it may be the clutch actuater pivot/hinge...or whatever its real name is...
where the slave cylinder meets the pivot arm.
my squeak goes as soon as i ever so lightly depress the clutch pedal...way before the pedal does anything.
its is not always there..but most of the time..
ive been meaning to get under and put some grease on the contact point.
that is if nb8b is the same as yours...the write up i read was for an na.

hope this helps...fixed mine ok

my engine had been steam cleaned and grease washed away from the pivot point..just a dab of grease smeared on the contact point fixes it.

Nope. Pezchops got it first time. Thanks mate. I'd already looked all round there for something loose, but didn't think for a minute about lubrication. All good now though.
