Would you advise to get a new gasket or use the old one to reinstall after painting?

Depends how old the gasket is. A supple relatively new one can be re-used. A brittle old one usually can't.

Only use genuine Mazda for this. This is one case where genuine is far better than aftermarket. Best source is here: http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/cover-gasket- ... p-240.html Make sure you select 1.8 or 1.6 correctly - they're different.

Mine was in relatively good condition however a close friend of mine still recommended using a bit of gasket goo on the corners of the cams at the front and corners of the rear cas - apparently these are common places to leak. I'm not sure if it was necessary in my case but am happy to report not a single leak.

Mazda factory workshop manual. Go looking in the technical guides section of this forum.

All painted. Waiting for the gasket to arrive and need to also buy some sealant. Covers are around $40-50 2nd hand. Would love to also do one in fluro lime green or fluro pink.

Covers are pretty cheap @$40-50.

Amazing design with balanced uniform lines and size.

Working on an art project with these covers. Maybe get two or three and paint them (most likely using stencils) and frame it.

Love the white and blue too. To be honest, I'm hopeless with the details which is why I'm not shaving or colour the letters.

Give is a few very fine coats rather than one thick coat. The Honda Forum boys have a lot of advice on how to do this.

Just sourcing wrinkle paint other than red or black is difficult.

Installed the gasket this afternoon.

Gasket looks like a thong.

Snug fit.

Turned out great but please re-consider painting the lettering and do them black.

Also, you shouldn't paint hose barbs, it makes fitting hoses a bit harder and you risk getting paint flakes in the hose.
