Hi guys,
I've got a strange noise that started maybe a week ago.
Basically it only happens in 1st, 2nd (sometimes) and reverse which leads me to believe gearbox, not clutch.
The common factor is that this noise occurs at low speed. If I hammer it in 1st and change to 2nd going a reasonable speed this noise wont happen, its only if I'm crawling in traffic etc in 2nd. The noise is a screeching sound that happens as I release the clutch and start accelerating, it doesn't last a very long time - it will go away after i pick up even a small amount of speed. It just occurs as the clutch engages and I accelerate for maybe 1-2seconds. I can draw out the noise longer if I take off more gradually.
Has anyone experienced this before? My car is an nb8b, not sure if i should be concerned with this noise.
Weird noise, not sure if clutch or gearbox

Found a video showing the noise, this is exactly what mine does.

Pretty sure its still the OEM clutch, car has 152xxx k's on it. Probably just old and due for replacement?

At least you've got a bit of time now, rather than being stuck on the side of a mountain somewhere. I'd do clutch, release bearing and rear main oil seal together.sunlightsilver wrote:Pretty sure its still the OEM clutch, car has 152xxx k's on it. Probably just old and due for replacement?

Clutch release bearing. Do what manga_blue says.
UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

Yeah that's what I was thinking.
I guess an exedy clutch kit would suit fine?

Sounds more like the flywheel spigot bearing to me. In any case, you'll have to take off the gearbox as per clutch replacement and replace it along with the clutch and release bearing.

Picked up an exedy clutch kit, the rear main oil seal and pilot bearing for $250 incl postage - will probably be doing DIY with my brother who's a mechanic. Hoping to learn a bit in the process
