Oil filter sandwich plate 1.6

Hi all, a mate of mine is going to part with his nice Defi gauges one of which includes an oil temp sensor. One problem installing this in my 92 NB is that the last time I changed the filter I saw there is some sort of brace that goes from the block to the intake manifold. This sits right up against the oil filter with no room to add the sandwich plate.

What solutions are there to fitting the plate in? Is it safe to remove this brace? Or is my only option a relocation kit? Thanks!

First time I've heard of NB having an issue with a sandwich plate. What size filter are you using?

derp. I wrote NB, but it's a 92 NA. The filter i'm using is just the regular old Ryco Z79A

Maybe try a smaller filter that still fits on?. Like the OEM Mazda ones or Ryco Z436 (which is the same physical size as the OEM Mazda).

Or dont use a sandwich plate and locate the sensor elsewhere.

Any suggestions? Dont like the idea of a sump plug sensor

I've got my sensor in the sump without any issues. 1/8NPT tap and away you go!

If you get rid of it you can just put a 1/8 NPT cap to block the hole.
