Hey People
Having the dead speedo problem on my '03 NB. I know what I need to do but today I got under the car and having only owner this car for 2 weeks and never have owned a MX5 before I need a hand with something.
I tried to remove the sensor but there is a metal plate that is making this job super difficult so need to know is this a common thing MX-5 owners remove? Once I remove it can I just leave it off?
Here's a picture of the thing Im talking about ie the thing the wrench is touching. Im on the drivers side, the cat is just past the plate.

Pull the brace off (the metal plate) then refit it.
Even with basic hand tools the remove refit shouldn't take more than 10 minutes.
With a rattle gun and experience off and back on is probably <2mins.

You mean for the speedo drive?
Just unscrew it...
Maybe a photo?

This part at the end of the speed sensor where I have to resolder the wires. All the online articles just say "just pop it out" but this stuff is packed in and needs to be dug out and so far Im not getting far. Is there some special method Im missing?

I didn't buy a new one.
This article
http://revlimiter.net/blog/2012/09/dead ... meter-fix/ Just said to pull it out, resolder the wires and put it back in. But The epoxy stuff around the wires is solid and difficult to remove.
Looking at where the wires join back into the larger piece that has the green gear on the end of it.
