nb8a Camshafts

Postby fcruz3r » Mon Oct 07, 2013 12:15 pm

want to get custom ground cams but most places require you to supply the camshafts and I dont really want my car off the road for that long. Can't find any used nb8a camshafts but may be able to source a couple of used na8 cams from japan.

are these interchangable? and what markings or part numbers are on these camshafts to identify what model these belong to?

thanks

not so simple as that.

na8 ones will have bp05 or bp06 on them.
nb8 ones will have bp2y on them.

problem is that nbs use a camshaft with a solid lifter and the camshaft has a base circle of 36.00mm.. nas and 90-96 bp powered 323/lasers use a hla and a camshaft with a base cicle of 35.94mm. regrind work in na8s because the lifter can adjust for the altered base circle on the regrind. nb using solid lifter cannot alter.

if you choose to use regrinds, then you will have to either:- get thicker over shims to suit the increase in cam/lifter gap. or purchase new solid lifters and under caps to suit.

thanks for the info. Probably explains why all the nb aftermarket camshafts that I've seen online requires shims

the maruha and tomei offerings are $$$

Surely you could use the 323/Laser cams of the '99/2000 vintage?

There should be some 'performance' profiles around as well.

had the maruha ones before and just recently sold my toda ones with MMD lifters. good stuff but for the coin you are looking at. may as we'll get the big duration profiles. but you'll need to add a aftermarket emu also.
