New Exhaust time!

Alright so I've decided that it's time to replace the exhaust on my '98 NB8A.

I'm looking at 3 options- MX5 Factory in Ringwood, Town & Country Exhausts in Geelong, and waiting around until something cool pops up in the classifieds.
I've literally heard nothing but good things about T&C, but nothing about MX5 Factory. MX5 Factory also does an intake exhaust and ECU bundle, which I have requested a quote on but heard nothing about.

So, is it worth getting stainless? It looks nice, but aren't the tips always stainless anyways, from that point of view? Sure it lasts longer, but a mild steel or whatever else they use would still last longer than 6 years right? I've also heard that mild steel sounds warm and grizzly, whereas stainless can sound 'ringy' and tinny.

Also, I'm getting mixed messages about diameter. 2" is stock, I believe, and T&C use 2.25".
And lastly, how much of my exhaust is worth while replacing? Are the '98 stock headers any good, or should I get it all done while I'm there?
Basically I'm just after a few opinions on the matter.

re: stainless vs mild.
The factory exhaust is mild steel, so that should give you an idea of how well it lasts.

Regarding how much to replace, depends what you want. If it's just a bit of noise, just to the muffler.
If you want a bit more power, you'll probably want to replace more, but I'm not 100% on how much difference it makes so I won't comment.

Stainless also weights more than mild steel. So if weight is a factor go mild steel.

2.25" is perfect. T&C have a great rep although on the pricey side. I wouldn't go near MX5 factory but that is my own personal opinion. There are heaps of mufflers only available if all you want is a bit of noise. Depends on what you want.

There is some disinformation here.

The stock exhaust is most certainly not regular old mild steel. At all.

If you want me to build you one and ship it, id be happy to discuss it in length and answer all of your questions, however everything that you have asked so far can be answered with a 5 minute search here and on google.

Instead of waiting for the MX5 factory to get back to you why not take a short drive up the road and ask them and get them to explain what they can offer. As for T&C there is plenty of info on the forum. Their system was designed to work on a NB with the assistance of a forum member and their prices are competitive. There is a mountain of info on stainless versus carbon steel exhausts and the majority take the cheaper option. Dann's right about info being available.

Try searching nb exhaust, headers and you'll see why I made a thread.
Also, Dann, send me the very basic details of your system like cost, materials, etc, and I'll let you know if it's the right thing for me and we can discuss from there.

ADM NB8A headers were good, but the USDM ones were rubbish, so minimal gains here. So, hi flow cat & cat back in 2.25" as Meanmx says.
