Ignition Leads too short?

Ordered a couple sets of NGK Blue's from onlineautomotive and each pair came with one long and one short wire. Trouble is the short ones are far too short to reach, even for cylinder 1. Are there lead extension cables I can buy somewhere? Prefer not to splice more wire in. Also currently have the two longer ones that fit in the car with the old ones, is that ok in the short term?

What model is your 5 and what is the part number for the leads you ordered/received?

I believe that later model NBs have shorter leads than the NA models do.

For example here is the NGK leads for the NA6

and a set for a 2003, which you can see comes as a set of 2 leads, rather than the 4 you get for the NA6.

After a bit more searching on the NGK site it would appear that the spark plug leads for the NA6, NA8 and NB8A are the same. I also discovered that you have a '99 NB, so you have a NB8A.

I think you have either ordered, or been sent a set of leads for a later model NB, which uses a Coil over Plug (COP) arrangement. The COP setup only requires two leads rather than the four leads that the earlier models require.

I would suggest ordering the correct leads and sale the incorrect ones on the forum to get some of your money back. Don't try and extend them.

Thanks. Got the part number from ngk's website though! Put in 1999 nb8a. Oh well, I'll post these up for sale then

Just tried same on the NGK website & found they only list one part number for NB 1998-2005:
http://www.ngk.com.au/ignition-leads-pa ... ++JM0NB30P

As Juffa mentioned, it seems they list & have sent you the NB8B/C/D plug leads which are pairs only as NB8B/C/D uses two coil on plug & two plug leads, whereas NB8A used four plug leads, like NA8 & NA6. I'd be going back to NGK as it seems they are at fault.

better often to buy from a local business and take back a part that is not suitable- they would have asked you details on your car and matched for correct leads- if the cross reference was wrong you would not wear it. If the items are unused you still may be to return them.

Yeah, my stuff up should have paid more attention to the fact NGK's site recommended two leads (having never bought leads before I assumed they were always just sold in pairs for some odd reason)

Can't really go back to NGK as their parts catalogue search begins with this disclaimer http://www.ngk.com.au/disclaimer/4

Mr Morlock, you're quite right. Lesson learned. I could return them to onlineautomotive but probably have to pay postage cost anyway so may as well offer them to forum members at a low price, I don't mind. They are completely unused apart from a test fit so my loss, someones gain.

Almost made same mistake myself for my NB8A after checking for which leads fit from the NGK website. Luckily I went searching for a cheaper price for them on ebay and found out the differences on there, after being rather confused at their listings showing they are same as previous models.

Bad form on NGK's part ...

Quite right. So just to update what happened here I emailed both online automotive and NGK, not expecting anything but figured it wouldn't hurt anyway. Online automotive have been great, immediately offered me a full refund (except I had to pay postage to send back the incorrect leads) but then sold me the correct set at a $10 discount (covering aforementioned postage) and without the postage price (covering postage of the incorrect leads before)

NGK had also replied apologising for the error and said if I returned the leads to my retailer they would refund the retailer.

Pretty happy with how online auto handled that.
