When adjusting base idle, i followed this guide:
http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/forums/t/206.aspxnow am i meant to set it to 850 and then remove the wire & then turn the idle higher?
running on 850 the car is about to stall.
also when i disconnect the iacv while the car is running the car shuts off, is this normal.
car is a nb8b.
thanks in advance.

No. How can you not understand those instructions?
You leave the diagnostics box bridged, adjust the idle to 850, then remove the wire.

Did you not read the part where I said it does not like to idle at 850?
Am I missing something here?

how are you making the determination that your base idle speed is 850 rpm? the accuracy of the tacho in the factory instrument cluster is dubious at best.

IIRC, you recently changed your gauges (based on the video you posted on Sunday).
I also noticed you did this (pic from your album)
Are you sure the idle reading is accurate considering your new gauge requires the needle to sit in a different position compared to the OEM?

As far as I could tell it reads the same.
I let the car warm and set the needle in the exact position as before.
I have read somewhere that I should adjust it so that when I remove the bridge the revs dont change.
If someone can confirm this id appreciate it!

I guess let's assume it's for real, I too want to gain some knowledge on this. Thanks in advance, Dann!

Ok so some basic stuff you need to know is that the car will idle happily at 850rpm if its internally stock and healthy.
The iscv ONLY increases the idle rpm it cannot decrease it from the base setting.
Your guage is wrong, my last na6 would rev right off the stock guage, 7800rpm read right off the end of the dial. You need to confirm rpm with an rpm capable multimeter.
With this info you should be able to work it all out on your own.

I should have my hands on a multimeter tommorow.
I saw a video on youtube which should be right but if you have time dan could you explain to me the process?
