coilover sleeve kit??
hi guys, apologies in advance if this is a really noob question. but has anyone had any experience with a coilover sleeve kit with a factory or after market shocks? are they any good for just daily driving? i looking to lower my car but a complete coilover kit is just out of my budget. so for now i was thinking of just a set of lowered springs or this coilover sleeve kit. thank u.

Have a look at emily_mx5s reply in this thread; viewtopic.php?f=30&t=58524
Lowered (not chopped) springs are OK (not brilliant performance, but it'll work), but from what I've seen of coilover sleeves, avoid them.

They were all the rage 10 years ago but with the sheer range and price of properly manufactured and matched suspension options available these days I don't know why you would bother. I bought an almost brand new set of coilovers 2nd hand for $500 (I think) and using the long bolt method I fitted all 4 in an hour.

Ha beat me to it lee!
Erec, I know these can be appealing on a poor students budget, but just because it has the word coilover in its name does not make it a "coilover" in the sense that real coilovers are a whole unit, and the good ones are valved to match th spring rates and has dampner adjustability etc etc etc.
If you just want the car a bit lower for looks, just keep an eye out for a set if second hand lowered springs from a good well known brand, like King or eibach.

Re: coilover sleeve kit??
Mate, when we get together I'll show you a set of sleeves that were given to me with my NA .. that'll probably be enough to put you off them There are much better quality ones available, but as stated, their cost vs decent used coilovers makes them less attractive as an alternative these days.
We'll take a look at your shocks as well. Depending what's fitted, just fitting lowered springs may also cause some problems. Lowered springs are generally 20/30% stiffer than stock and the stock shocks often struggle to control them sufficiently, causing ride & handling issues.

$53 is alot to pay for paperweights. maybe use something else around the house for paperweights, and save the $53 for quality products.

Easy answer, don't do it dude. Just save the extra cash and do the job properly.
