Fuel Tank Crack

Hi guys, I've got a question regarding the NA fuel tank. I noticed a leak a week ago in an awkward spot, so I pulled the tank out and found a small crack that had been repaired before with the epoxy tank repair stuff. I plan on getting this crack professionally repaired or tracking down a second hand fuel tank.

I was just wondering if this area might be a high stressed point in the tank? Could a repair job flex and crack again? It looks like something's bashed into it and caused the crack but I want to be sure it won't happen again!

If anyone's got a fuel tank lying around they're looking to get rid of, I am interested. Cheers!

EDIT: Didn't realise pics were broken!

The fuel tank isn't a stressed member of the chassis. Depending on the quality of the repair, you should be fine

Brilliant I'll take it to a shop this week. I just don't want it to crack again because taking it out is such a pain!

How was it damaged? The fuel tank in an MX5 is pretty tucked away, doesn't get damaged easily

I'm not sure how it happened, It was already cracked when I got it, there was some epoxy crap covering it up. I smelled petrol and checked under the car and there it was :(

If it has been repaired, it is possible the pump been out before, and possibly the seal isn't too great, so you might wish to check that too.

I'll make sure to check that out before it goes back in, thanks! I didn't have any fuel troubles before, at least until the crack appeared, so hopefully all is well. I've had the car for a couple of years now.
