Replacement clutch line on NA

I bought one of these:

recently. I made an assumption that it replaced the torturous path that the mx5 clutch line takes back and forth across the engine bay with a straight path from the master cylinder to the clutch slave.
But apparently no - it replaces the rubber line that goes over the top of the bell housing.
So what's the point of the hard lines going from one side to the other? Is it just simpler for LHD versions, or is the extra length of hard line good for fluid volume/cooling?
