Another Clutch issue

Hey guys,

Driving down Punt road today, when all of a sudden the car's clutch would not disengage. Could not change gears and even when I did mange to get back into gear I was unable to re-engage the clutch.

manage to limp the car to the side of the road by using the starter motor once the clutch engaged. Mind you it has 130,xxx kms with out a clutch change.

I have seen some posts about the slave/master cylinder being a problem but there is no fluid leaking nor is the reservoir empty (its full)

Is there any preferred mx5 mechanics in the Caulfield South area. Was thinking of taking it to Mx5 factory (bit of a hike)

Cheers,
Gordon.

Its just a clutch, take it to any mechanic.

It will be pedal or master/slave related most likely, could be the clutch fork.

Basically if you have drive at the rear wheels but you cannot disengage the clutch, it's most likely a hydraulic issue.
If the clutch can be disengaged but you have no drive or the clutch slips under load, it's most likely a mechanical issue.

From what you have described I'm guessing it's the slave cylinder.
Plenty of "how to" on the various forums to decide if you want to repair it yourself or send it to a garage.

Try "pumping" the clutch pedal. If it works after pumping - hydraulics. If it doesn't, then the mechanical linkage from the slave to the release lever, the lever itself or a disintegrated throw out bearing may be the problem.

Closest that I'm aware of that have a good rep with forumites are:
Dean @ Motorsport Essentials, 29E Glenvale Cres, Mulgrave, 9562 1005; &

Allmaz, 492 Clayton Rd, Clayton, 9544 7044.

There was Tony @ Fultech in Burwood, but we're not sure if he's back at work.
