Fitting NB 1.8 Diff in place of NA8 into my NA6..

Postby Rorge » Wed Oct 17, 2012 10:42 pm

So i've had some diff woes and have lined up an NB open diff for now.

I've noticed in the images it requires male shafts to go into the diff.. Is this in any way compatible with the NA8 diff or driveshafts?

All the same, the NA8 stubs should fit into the NB diff.

About couple years or so ago, someone tried to do the same, or vice-versa (fit NA8 diff into NB) and IIRC they came to a problem with fitting the drive-shafts.
You might find that the number of splines in the NB diff are different than NA spline, hence if so, you have to use the NB full-length shafts.
Either that or there's a difference in number of splines between NA6 & NA8.
Once again, I don't remember exactly but just giving you a warning. IF you do end up having to use NB shafts, another warning, they are a bit of a PITA compared to NAs' half-shaft/stub-axle design.

bring a half-shaft/stub-axle with you and try to fit it into the diff before buying it.

NA6 shafts will not fit an NB or NA8 diff.

NA8 and NB diffs share the same spline count and shaft diameter. (the late model NA8s actually used the NB style single shafts)

The only exception is the SE which if I remember correctly had a different spline count to the others, and I think slightly thicker driveshafts.
