clutch/gearbox issue

Hi All,

I am experiencing an issue with my clutch/gearbox. Yesterday I drove my car fine, no problems, arrived home and parked it in the driveway as per usual. I go to drive it this morning, starts fine. Then I go to put it into gear, I notice its very stiff, I had to use a lot of force to put it into gear. I had a bit of a play around with it and noticed that this was the case for trying to put it into first, second, reverse etc. Then playing around I noticed the clutch was unusually soft pressing the pedal. I then go to drive off and point where the clutch engages was way out compared to what it should be, so much so that it was hard to keep it from stalling.

I had to leave it as I was running late for work but I'll be home soon and I was looking to do some self diagnosis. I know very little about how the whole things works to be honest and was basically going to make sure that the clutch fluid was ok. Is there anything else I can check? The clutch cable? (not sure where it is?)

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

Joe

sounds like slave cylinder seal (about $3) but if you know very little about how the whole things works, probably better to take it to a clutch and brake shop.

Thanks, looks like the clutch fluid is all gone.

You think it would be ok if I fill up the fluid just to get functionality back just so I can drive it a short while to get it looked at?

Yes. You may need to pump the pedal a bit to get pressure as the lines will be full of air.

& of course minimise the use of the clutch, check the fluid level frequently, & top up as necessary, as the old slave cylinder may leak fluid quite quickly.
