Air Cond NB8B

Sister's 01 MX Manual makes giant whirring/grinding sound when air cond is switched on. Noise free otherwise.

Initially I hoped it was a belt. She told me the sound doesn't go away. I kept it running for 30 seconds hoping it would go (ie a belt requiring lubricant). The dash vents started to fill with an electrical smell. AC switched off at that point.

We are southern suburbs of Melbourne.

Any one know if a Mazda dealer ie Brighton/Frankston/Springvale Road is any good.

Is there a southern suburbs AC specialist.

What about an MX 5 workshop?

Thanks.

an ac specialist is the go, Ask you local Bursons as an example for local ac places- the spares guys always know the local car businesses. The MX5 factory is in Ringwood a bit far to go-but not really sure if that is best bet fior this specialist stuff ie businesses often sub stuff out. Sounds like a bearing has gone. There are heaps of car specialists in Moorabbin.

All of the following are well regarded by various forumites on here:

Tony @ Fultech, Johnston St, Burwood, 9888 7499 (but not sure if he's back at work);

Dean @ Motorsport Essentials, 29E Glenvale Cres, Mulgrave, 9562 1005;

Road Track Rally, 18 Short St, Dandenong, 9792 4024;

Allmaz, 492 Clayton Rd, Clayton, 9544 7044; &

Gerald & Chaz @ Mammi Motors, 10 Industrial Drv, Somerville, 5977 7973.

I used Mornington & Frankston Mazda back in the early 1990s when I had my MX5 NA6 - they were expensive then, so would hate to think what prices are like now.
