MX5 SE Service Parts

Postby kenson » Fri Sep 21, 2012 11:31 am

Hi everyone,

I picked up my SE yesterday and I'll be giving it a full service this weekend.
I have a lot of spare parts left over and I want to make sure that the SE is basically the same as the NB8B when it comes to service parts.

Sparkplugs
According to the NGK website, these are different, they recommend: NGK IFR5T-8N 0.8

Oil Filter
Can I use my spare NB8B one?

Fuel Filter
Can I use my spare NB8B one?

Air Filter
Standard K&N NB8B one good enough? Still umming and ahing about the AEM Intake. As others have said, I probably should get used to the car.
My wife doesn't like it already haha.

Water Pump
I ordered a brand new water pump which I didn't swap in/out on my NB8B as it was all good still. Is this compatible?

Thanks for the help guys.

Cheers,

Kenny

Turns out most items are the same except for the spark plugs.

Cheers,

Kenny

the air filters are different. Part # for the SE filter is B6MW 13Z40. If you install the air filter for a std i.e. non turbo in the SE the engine won't breath and will not drive well.

According to the owner's manual, spark plugs for the regular BP engine are either NGK BKRE-11 or BKR6E-11, or Denso K16PR-U11 or K20PR-U11.

SE BP engine is Denso SK16PR-F8.

Spark gap:
MX-5 1.0 to 1.1mm
MX-5 SE 0.7 to 0.8mm

Thanks for the help guys. I plan on sourcing a washable air filter. I'll have to do some searching.
Did oil, oil filter, coolant, brake and clutch oil today.

Next is gearbox, diff and spark plugs. Still trying to source parts at a good price. Redline is pretty expensive!

Wow, I shouldn't have whinged about the NB oil filter. The SE is even worse! I had to take the wheel off to get to it and there's hardly any room down there!

So it's clear in the future, correct spark plugs according to the owners manual are Denso SK16PR-F8 Iridiums. You can get NGK equivalents.

Also the K&N Filter to get is the K&N 33-2676.

Last tip, check Amazon for prices!
I just bought the following items:
Redline MT-90 @ $14.95 / quart (around $30-$40 retail in AU)
Redline 75W90 @ $14.50 / quart (around $30-$40 retail in AU)
Sparkplugs @ $12.94 each (around $20-25 retail in AU)
K&N Filter @ $42 (I remember paying around $120 for this in Perth)

Shipping was around $30. I bought a lot of stuff... 8)

Got all my stuff safely today. Amazon know what they are doing, they separated the gear into two boxes, one with hazardous equipment and the other without.
The non-hazardous equipment arrived first. Pretty fast shipping considering it comes from the US.

Next: Turbosmart BOV and Magnaflow cat-back from Amazon :?:
