How much longer will my diff last?

Hey Guys,
I started hearing noises from my diff tonight. When i change gears, the is a small metallic clunk that comes from the rear of the car, sometimes its slight, sometimes a little louder. There is also a slight whirring noise. It's hard to make out but it's only there when the car is moving.
I changed the clutch last week and also replaced all the fluids. The diff oil had a slight silvery colour to it and there was a piece of metal the size of a tic tac on the drain plug.
I just need to know if i should stop driving the car or keep driving it till it dies. I don't want to risk needing a tow though...

You are risking a tow.

All bases covered there. I had to drive it to work this morning and it was nowhere near as bad. Almost felt normal.
I'm being very careful with it though and am not rushing gear changes or suddenly applying the throttle.

it will not fix itself. It needs to be checked repaired or replaced. Who did the clutch- a pro - get them to take a look perhaps.

The simplist thing to do would be to jack the car up and do a bolt check, I assume you had to take off the PPF and tailshaft to replace the clutch? It may be a universal joint or just a bolt on the PPF that has not been done up properly or the PPF hasn't bedded properly. Doesn't cost anything to check it all over again.
Maybe check the backlash of the diff by doing a rotation of the tailshaft.

Or pray that something doesn't fail where it might be dangerous to you or to others.

Cheyne, as Flycasta says worth a quick check of the PPF - Hammer's SP PPF cracked which manifested itself as a intermittent metal ticking noise from the rear end:

A damn good idea.
When the bolt fell out of my PPF the diff made some horrible clunks and thumps as load was put on and off the diff. If your bolts are loose they might be allowing some movement.
It's free to check anyway.
