Complete fluid change and filters NA8

Postby bigmaxy » Sun Sep 09, 2012 8:55 pm

Hi all.

I know these sort of questions come up all the time and I am actively searching through the threads but was hoping I could get some answers in a single thread.
Looking to replace all fluids and filters in a 94 NA8 that has done 240,000. Will be a daily driver with possibly the odd track day.

Does anyone recommend what fluids to use for engine, manual trans, diff? Of course I could just go with what's in the manual but the experts normally have a better opinion and that's where all of you come in.
Filters? OEM Mazda or aftermarket? I know with a previous Skyline I once had the recommendation was to go with factory Nissan paper filters.

Doesn't seem to be making any funny noises apart from a slight tappet type of noise at idle. Gearbox isn't quite a snickety snick as I might have expected but doesn't seem to have any problems.

It's basically just for my peace of mind.

Cheers all.

For oil filters i always go for OEM. They are not much more expensive than all the copies you can buy so why not? As far as oils/lubricants are concerned there are many different personal opinions/recommendations according to preference, useage and mileage of the car.

Sounds like you recently bought your NA8, so baseline it service-wise as you're doing, particularly if service history is sketchy. These cars are not that fussy standard, so no real need to get specialised products. If HLAs are still noisy you could try Nulon Lifter Free. If you're still not happy with GB then you can go for something more exotic, but do a major baseline service first, see how it drives, & then go from there.

Spot on 93_Clubman. You are correct and that's exactly what I had in mind.
Some marques have little tips and tricks and I was scoping for any of those. Looks like it should be nice and easy in that case.
Should be a hoot. Cheers. :D
