Solid lifter for B6.....where to buy?

Postby StillIC » Sat Sep 08, 2012 5:11 pm

I am trying to obtain solid lifters for my NA6 (B6 1.6 engine), and it is not going well.

I started by ordering TODA parts but the Australian distributor (TODA Performance) stole my money and then did a runner (interstate I heard).

Then I ordered Supertech lifters through Emilio at 949Racing, who has always been a good supplier to me, but Emilio says he is still waiting on Supertech to supply him the parts (since early July).

Who else sells, and can supply, solid lifters for the B6 engine?

TIA.

Maruha which you can buy direct from. I have purchased from them without a problem before. Email them the part numbers you require. They'll send you a paypal request. Pay them and they'll turn up in 5-7 days.

Much cheaper to buy MazdaSpeed lifters from Bill Wilner at Miata Roadster in California.

You can buy the lash caps from Bill as well or else from Chris at Precision Shims in Melbourne. Both are really easy guys to deal with over the phone.
http://www.precisionshims.com.au/a/Prec ... -Australia

Chris is dearer but he sells them in 0.02 mm increments (vs Bill's 0.05) and he ships them overnight. If you do buy from Chris let him know you only have 3.25mm on the valve stems above the collet tops.

The factory hydraulic lifters should be fine, talked to a lot of engine builders and they said to stay with hydraulics. And these were high revving high lift high duration cams too. Gary Stewart and Warren Heath aka wozzah, who both build a lot of B6 and BP engines.

Only reason I'm running solids is because my engine was from a NB6 which had them from factory.

You can also use the factory solids from a BP engines, they're shim on bucket though.

Kia sells them for the bp not sure if they work for b6. Probably shim on bucket again.

Sucks about the today ones. Second pham with not needing them, but can also recommend miata roadster.

You dont need them, but solid cams can give far better area under the curve, and factory like driveability while still producing the same power as equivalent hydro cams.

he mentioned lifters. not cams. you dunno if he has cams that have a much smaller base circle from oem or not. so he may require the gap adjustment that solid lifter give. or he may not. you know the drill...

Thanks very much to those who responded to the request; much appreciated. I should have asked ages ago.

To those who postulated as to the necessity of these items, don't you know that the customer is always right! I may have cams with a small base circle. I may be running high revs. I may even have had a valve job which sinks the valves into the head further than normal. I may be preparing to install the lifters in a Mazda B6 themed artwork! In any case, I *want* them.

Thanks, again.

P.S. 2 of the above 4 statements are true ;).

Cool, the mazdaspeed ones seem the go for the price.

Two of the people that said hla would be okay, have 3 out of the 4 things on your list,

But if you really want them that's fine too.

By coincidence I spotted up some Supertech lash caps while I was looking for something else today in the shed. These are the ones that Miata Roadster sells. The socket in the lash cap that covers the top of the valve stem is 2.5mm deep. This is what Chris would need to grind the skirts down to if you buy them from him. Valve stem diameter is 6.00mm on my NA8, don't know if it's the same or not on an NA6.
