NB Shifter into NA Gearbox? Lil Help please.

My Project CRAPBOX came with a shortshifter that is broken.

I have secured a NB gear Shifter from ZOSSY1 (thanks mate).
It has 2 slots, one front and back and no plastic piece in either slot.

The NA uses a slot just at the front and usually with a plastic piece.

I have looked on various pages and get lots of conflicting reports.
Can anyone please confirm for me that the NB Shifter will or will not work in a NA box?

This COMPATIBILITY GUIDE suggests that the NA will not work in NB but the NB will work in NA.
http://www.miata.net/garage/compatibility.html

5-speeds:
a) 1989-2005 lengths and tip diameters are the same (15mm tips)
b) 1989-1997 has wide slot for crescent-shaped plastic bushing for dowel pin (on one side only)
c) 1999-2005 has narrow metal slots without bushings (180* apart on both sides)

Does this mean i can use the NB shifter and do not need to worry about the plastic bushing?

I just do not want to put my new rubber boots onto the lever if it will be not so good.
I do not think they will come back off without damage.

Sorry to be a pain.

Thanks in advance!

Mark, forget the new turret boot for the moment - pop the shifter in and drive it around the block, see how it goes ;)
