Which clutch for 11psi boost?
Hi,
What clutch would you recommend for a NA6 1991 that is boosted with about 11psi and has the stock 5 spd and running gear.
Want something that is suitable for this and no more as I won't be going past this level in terms of boost etc. Anything that is close to stock feel would be great.
Keen to buy a kit or set that has everything I need to replace it, and nope I've not done this before, so hoping it is easier for a capable wrench monkey to tackle.

I used a Xtreme hd.
Was about $260 for the kit and has stock feel but held 10psi.

Does anybody know how much power an Exedy Sports Tuff clutch for the NA6 can hold?

Nicks clutch service archerfield brisbane, google it. My old clutch which had a 1750 lb pressure plate gave up the ghost.

ACT Stage 1, or an FM stage 1. I run an ACT myself and am very happy with it - only slightly firmer than normal, doesn't get difficult in traffic, and holds the power without a problem.
They are expensive - but you get what you pay for.
You will not need a 6 pad, 4 pad or button clutch running 11psi.
Have you considered moving to a 1.8L flywheel and clutch combo? Might be a good time to upgrade.

What's the reason behind going to a NA8 flywheel?

Bigger clutch, bigger pressure plate, holds more power. 1.8L clutch does not fit 1.6L flywheel so if you change to 1.8L spec you must change both clutch and flywheel together.
On the downside, the stock 1.8L flywheel is a bit heavier, but this isn't much of a problem and can be solved with a lightweight flywheel such as a Fidanza or Racing Beat. I run a racing beat myself and it's great.

So bolts straight up with zero problems or other changes etc? Mates to the NA6 5spd no problem etc?

Re: Which clutch for 11psi boost?
It has a fair bit of weight on the outmost part of it though which gives it higher rotational inertia. The NA6 flywheel is a better design if you can get a clutch up to the task.

Bolt-on fit, though as Sab says it is heavier. Like I said before though, a good alloy flywheel fixes that problem.
Depends on how much power you're thinking of pushing in the end.

Re: Which clutch for 11psi boost?
Ok, so I'm thinking the Exedy HD for the std NA6 should be good enough for where I am on the power spectrum (I'd be stunned and stoked if I was near 200bhp at the flywheel) and that's the limit as far as I'm concerned.
So my next decision is to decide if I'll do the job myself, or get MX5 Plus to do it.
I'd like to have the rear main seal and consider swapping my old crunchy 5 spd for another 5 spd (with less crunching).
I've not tackled this before, but have 2 workshop manuals, plenty of good tools and garage space, plus I don't rely on the car as a daily drive.
On the other hand, it seems there are plenty of areas where I can go really wrong if I'm not careful, and don't want to tackle something that for $300 I can get a professional to do it.
I may call MX5 Plus on Tuesday to get their view on job estimate and when they'd next fit it in if they were taking it on - plus I can chat to them about the clutch recommendation and gearboxes they have to fit.
Thoughts?
