Clutch Hydraulic Line

I am in the process of getting my motor and gearbox out making way for the new setup.
I couldn’t help but notes that the Clutch line goes from the master cylinder up and over to the other side of the firewall in a solid line, then over the top of the gearbox in flexible hose and finally back through a solid line, that then has 2-3 loops before finally reaching the Slave cylinder.
Is there a reason for this???
Wouldn’t it be more effective just to run a braided line from the master cylinder to the slave?
As they are pretty much straight above each other.
This is in my NA6 1989 MX5
Opinions, answers anything is welcom

I realise you can get aftermarket options.
I'm just going to get some fitting and make my own.
As I have done it before on my Ke70 I use to have.
What puzzled me was the original layout of the standard clutch line, and if there is a reason for it.
As I couldn't think of any

Originally designed for left hand drive. They just did a bodgy conversion job.

US Layout, fix it as you mentioned. I have a braided line directly from slave to master!

Actually incorrect on US layout, as theirs doesn't use the same fixing point near the heater hoses. Ask how I know

I would not bother trying to make it at home- a pro makes it properly with no failures- they do this work all the time.

:
The 2-3 loops are included to make it easier for Mazda to pre-bleed the clutch master/slave setup before assembling onto the car. While this makes it easy for Mazda, it's harder for us.
If you ever have to replace a clutch line, get rid of the convoluted setup and replace it with a short/direct master->slave hose instead. This simplifies clutch bleeding and allows you to shed a few grams (which is always important in an MX5, every gram is sacred).

Thanks for the information. It was just something that I couldn't help but ask about as the system just seems pointless in its original configuration. Not in the fact that it won't work but having such a long line for no real reason.

This is a good point you make,
but the last one I made I didn't have problems with.
Plus I still have some braided line just need to screw on some fittings and its done

I bought the 949 braided clutch line (for American cars), and it is designed to go from the fitting (which is under the heater hoses on our cars) near where our master cylinder is down. And yeh, it didn't fit. Sorry, I really should stop doing that "guess how I know thing"; it's starting to annoy even me :p

My stock one split and put brake fluid all over my engine bay!
Replaced it with the MX-5 Plus one and it's now good as new, probably a matter of time before the slave goes bad!
