So I am looking into my options and I just have a few questions.

The T2 torsen, will that fit in to any 1.8 housing, or does it need to be a later model 1.8 housing?

The T2 torsen will take any 1.8 prop shaft, doesn't need to be from a specific year?

The T1 torsen looks like this, with the different (conical) bearings?

The T2's will take either cv joint driveshaft or flanged bolted stub axle.

Both the T1 and T2 will fit into any 1.8 diff carrier.

All the 1.8 tailshafts are the same.

Another question; I am considering getting it rebuilt (new seals and bearings) when I get it. About how much should I budget, and how worth it is it? Like has anyone had a bearing collapse on them?

I Just bought new bearings and seals when i had my T2 installed.

Bought them from cbc (on works account so they may be a little more if you are paying retail)

Bearings were $16.15 + gst each (part # - 32008X)

Seals were $4.05 + gst each (part # - AE6901F)

Are you doing the rebuild yourself or getting someone to do it? If the latter, then how much? Also where would i gind part numbers for T1, or would the bearing place be able to find out?

I got it fitted by Prep'd Motorsport in Gladesville. http://www.prepdmotorsport.com.au/

They did the bearings and seals at the same time.

Drive in drive out it cost $418 with me supplying the T2 centre, bearings and seals.

So you had the diff on the car then? I will be taking it to them sepparate, so i hope it might be a bit cheaper.

Is it a good idea to get them rebuilt? I have heard a loy of people saying that they have never seen a broken one. Reason i ask, is that if the money doesnt need to be spent then i wont spend it.

AFAIK there is not a lot that can wear out in the torsens. Ididnt actually do anything to the centre itself, i just got put the new seals and bearings in because it was apart and i could.

I dont make it up that way (to MB) much, but i have been on occasions.

So I called up a few bearing places, first on the list was CBC (who asked if my car was coupe or convertible.....), they said everything was genuine only. Called ABC bearings in brookvale next, they said they can't even look anything up without a number (great!), then I called Mazda, and this is what I gleamed

front pinion 32206C
rear pinion 32307C
Side carriers 32008X
front seal is AD2398E Might have to check that
Side seals are AE6901E Might have to check that as well.

What about the two bearings at either end of the center? Seen as the conical shaped bearings in the photo above? Are they generally not replaced?

If you are going to do the job, do it right the first time. For the extra cost just replace them now and have no problems later.

I used to work for them and kind of still work for them, I also play with diffs on the weekend so know what they are even though their listings might not.
