NA8 engine rebuild complete!

So I picked up my 94 NA8 today with freshly reconditioned engine along with all new hoses, clutch etc. etc. The whole thing basically.

I have dríven it about 15km so far, but all I can say is that it feels incredible. It feels like it just rolled off the factory floor. Can't believe how nice and smooth it feels. :mrgreen:

Spent the arvo putting in my NB8B seats and changed the fuel filter (this engine is gonna be the best-taken-care-of engine ever).

Also one of the engine mounts was sheared off and the other was nearly also, I reckon that would make a difference also.

Anyway, the point of this post is simply to say this.. if you're the owner of an older NA with a high-km engine and you're toying with the idea of getting your engine reconditioned, so far I reckon it's TOTALLY worth the money. Although looking back, my pre-rebuild engine must have been pretty poor condition so the difference I suppose depends on what your engine is like atm. I saw my old pistons and they had black carbon buildup all over them.

Yes you are right, I was just being lazy.

It was reconditioned including new pistons, rings, honed etc.

that sounds more like a rebuild. but the freeling of better running must be the improvement in bore reconditioning. make me wanna do the same.

Hmmm well it was done by a reconditioning shop. They pulled it all apart obviously and machined everything and put in brand new pistons & rings, reconditioned the head, all new bearings on the crank and conrods. Everything I've read suggests that rebuild uses existing pistons and just puts new rings on. They said it was a full recondition to spec.

Agreed. I don't care what's in a word, as long as my engine oil burning problems were solved and I get good engine performance for as long as possible

Not cheap. R&R of the engine (remove and reinstall) by mechanic was $880.
Reconditioning was $2650 and took 3-5 days.
Timing belt kit from Mania for $300
Oem Clutch kit was $150 delivered from the States
Same as coolant hoses, around $150 delivered from states. Gen Maz.
Plus engine mounts $70 each from Mazda from memory? I forget exactly.
Various other bits and pieces (screw clamps rather than spring, gaskets, etc) for $180
Mechanic kept my redline tranny oil he reckons. Plugged the back? It wasn't that old.
Plus of course other fluids.
Plus GST so add 10% to labour.
I stuffed around with import engines which ended up losing me more than I care to mention in labour, freight and a wasted waterpump, I will never fark around with import engines again.
But I plan to keep this as my wkend car for a long time now so it should last. I had a new radiator 6months ago and the radiator place flushed it no charge.
If I had time to do some things myself I would. I would attempt the R&R with a borrowed hoist. But I work til 8.30-9pm most days and wkends are mostly spent resting or catching up with either my or my missus' family. But if u have time then go for it and save nearly a grand.

Sounds about right, who did it?
Torque team quoted me about 2300 for a balanced lightened (200 extra) over bore (50 extra) bottom end and assembly. I'd give them the engine, head off (had was already done) they'd give it back in the same condition.
