My NC makes a strange high pitch whining noise in the rear when I'm on partial to full throttle. I thought it might be the fuel pump but now am leaning towards diff or exhaust. It is not loud, just annoying. Has anyone else had this.

P.S I drove a lot of autos before buying this one and they all had noisy transmissions. It is not that noise.

I was chatting to a guy who rebuilds diffs and he mentioned that the NC LSD is not particularly strong.

Apparently there have been issues overseas with the clutches (not sure if correct term) breaking off their locating tabs.

The diff will still work, it will just work more like an open diff..... and have bits of metal floating around inside it.



It might be worth maybe replacing the diff oil, fresh oil won't hurt, and it will give you a chance to see if there's any bits in there that shouldn't.

A high pitched whining noise that isn't loud just annoying...........you sure you haen't got my mother in law in your boot.


Seriously another one here for changing you diff oil and having a look.

I'm not sure what version he has, I assumed manual.

Ah, I just read it as him saying he's dríven a lot of autos (and I presumed old cars with worn gearboxes)

I didn't make the connection with the current one being auto too.

You would be amazed how many auto NC's I decided not to buy because of a whiny trans.

Then I get a car with a different noise which I swear wasn't there when I test drove it.

Check your rear brake pads.
As the auto doesn't have LSD, it uses the rear brakes to control the rear wheels. You may find the pads are down on the "squealers".

Definitely not that metal on metal sound. But a very interesting fact about brakes controlling the rear wheels.

You could say the noise I get is more like a resonating high pitch hum. I have found it doesn't make the noise coasting or just revving the engine.
