Transmission Removal Issues

I have an '89 Eunos NA with the stock 1.6L engine.
I'm trying to remove the transmission for a clutch replacement, I have removed all the bolts around the bell housing except the bottom two which attach the starter to the bell housing. this is because they are rounded off, and unremovable. I have undone the bolt which attaches the starter to the engine bolt, and as far as I can see there is nothing else attaching the starter to the engine, so I reckon the starter should come off with the transmission. Except I can't get the transmission off, it's seperated from the engine by about 1cm all around and I can see the teeth on the flywheel but it won't move any further. I've tugged, twisted and smacked it as much as I can but it won't budge.
Should I just continue to use force? or is there something else attaching it to the engine?

Lesson learnt from bitter experience, don't continue using force. Something will break.

There is a cover plate between the engine and the G/Box that is held to the engine block by 1 6mm (10mm head) bolt.
YOU HAVE TO UNDO THE STARTER to get the G/Box out

If the head of the bolt are rounded then try HAMMERING on the next size down socket to undo

having a repair manual is a big help- or access to the pages on clutch removal and refit. Russel probably solved it for removal. You probably need to address the damaged bolts.. [

Take a sample to a nut and bolt bloke or industrial supplies.
