How much oil is in your gearbox?
If you have no problem changing up or down in other gears, then it might be the synchromesh are going.

How fast are you going when you try to get it down in to 2nd and 1st?

Change the bush and the rubber boots if they need it (its easy and relatively cheap) but I suspect nothing will change - it sounds like the synchro ring is worn on that gear.

Was it OK before you changed the oil?
What oil did you put in?

Based on the info on here, the type and brand of oil can make a lot of difference to how the box feels and changes.

Cant go wrong with redline.

And p.s. There is such thing as to much oil. Not sure about mx5s but hondas can be overfilled.

Maybe clutch?

6 speed doesn't have a separate turret like the 5 speed, so no need to put oil in there, it's integral with the rest of the box. Is the change sloppy or vague? If not then its unlikely to be a bush problem. Try changing the oil again... It might make difference.
