Car won't start after engine swap. Urgent!

Postby mxfive95 » Fri Feb 03, 2012 8:22 pm

Ok so just swapped engines like fore like in a na8.

So if the cas is way out will this cause it to not start? I know I have to bridge 10 and ground to change timing so I guess I will bridge it now..

The plugs from the loom, any one know which way they go? I'm guessing that could also be an issue.

If you can help tonight that would be much appreciated as I'm competing at PI tomorrow. :/

Is the fuel pump working? Cas can only go into the cam in one position so leave it loose enough to be able to turn when turning over, but not too loose.
Are all the earths connected VERY important.
Go and have a coffee/tea, then grab a light and recheck all connections. Its usually something simple.

While the battery is charging I'm going over it like a boss.

How can I tell if the fuel hoses are on the right way? The 2 hose come up from the chassis are north south and I've connected them to the same way on the fuel rail, north south.

I've got the cas slightly loose and ready for timing :)

All the earths look good.

I swapped the plugs on the coil packs and got a bang ( ignition on one cylinder) but thats as far as I've got as the battery died..

It's most likely a lack of fuel in the lines so here's hoping.

If I've missed anything, fire away.

Cheers

Do a Google search, otherwise just swap them over and try.

Awesome thanks. Just changed them back now :).

Now that leaves me with the coil packs. Both plugs have a black, blue and brown wire each, passenger side brown has yellow tracer and drivers side has blue band. Reckon they're the right way around?

I've been working on this almost non stop. If you have an na8 can you please look at the wires leading into your coil pack :)

I'm lost. I have fuel, I also have spark from all 4 spark plugs when on rocker cover, I've also tryed changing plugs over on the coil packs but no good. It sounds like it wants to go but doesn't!

All the earths look good too! :/

Assuming your talking about the two plugs behind the leads. Drivers side on the outside should be a red with a yellow or white tracer (cant tell fading) The passenger side on the out side looks to be a blue wire.

Hopes this helps I would take a picture but have to run to work

Thank you, but i think its something else. What else could it be? I have spark and fuel and cas is roughly where it was on the old engine. All im getting is the engine viabrating eratically and trying to kick over. If something wasn't plugged in,Iwould it cause this?

Out of curiosity, which way do you rotate the cas sensor to advance/ retard?

Any help much appreciated

I can't remember which way to turn the CAS. If you still have the old engine, turn it over with a spanner and see which way the CAS drive rotates.

Check your plug leads are in the correct order and check your AFM/MAF connections.

I have methodically gone over everything and stumbled apon this thread

download/file.php?id=6343&mode=view

With my engine top dead centre, the cam sprockets don't match up to the picture in the above thread. So looks like the bloke I bought the engine off might have taken them off and randomly put it all back together :/
