The perfect exhaust size and headers?

Hello, i've managed too pick myself up a set off maxim werks headers last week and a great price and now I'am looking at getting an exhaust in order. The headers will be going on my series 1 NB mx5 1.8 litre, I was considering going for just 2.25inch exhaust, high flow cat and single hot dog after the diff out too twin 30 cm length pipes, I'am propbably gonna aim for a 2 3/8's inch exhaust just too ad too a bit more flow, The car is just a daily drivewr atm but I'am wanting too do track days aswell, and If I decide too super charge it down the track I'll be safe in keeping the 2 3/8 inch exhaust without any changes in wanting too go larger. Opinions will be much appreciated.

Ultimately it will depend on what power it makes, but in theory on a dead standard engine a 2" mandrel bent system with staright through glass packed mufflers and a hi flow cat is big enough. Most go for a 2 1/4" system which is also fine, and will work better if you're intending on doing more work at a later date. 2 3/8" is far too big, and it's an odd size, 2 1/2 would be your next step, but your car would need to have 210+hp to utilise that.
In relation to exhaust systems, slightly smaller always works better that slightly bigger than needed.
Are your headers 4-2-1? What size are the tubes?

I know that there 4-2-1 headers but unsure off the pipe OD, I was originaly gonna heep the same OD pipe from the headers all the way through, this would make sense to me as it would keep a little bit off back pressue which is good for NA motors?

Damn wazzah, You have been fast at that keyboard lately.
You are FAR more diplomatic than me too, with extra tact.
Also, yes sailaholic, you are right. Im not going to tell him though.
AUZJDM, do yourself a favour and search the forum for exhaust backpressure, or similar searches, find my posts. Then google some.
Then come back with some more intelligent questions please

Also search exhaust velocity.
Might learn something

Just do what waz, stated.
Dan likes to make himself feel better by sh#ting on people who know less. In his mind that's most people who post in this section.
Don't worry about it.
I'm using 2 1/4 on my car, works well. Good luck with the exhaust.

Not exactly. Exhaust systems are a bit of an art, and very technical especially when you're chasing every last bit of power. Sometimes the exhaust needs to step down, sometimes it needs to step up. There are alot of books and theorys behind exhaust system design.
Bottom line, What power is your car making? Is it standard? I really need the sizes and lengths of the pipes on the extractors you have to tell you whether they will work with your application on not.
The extractors and system I have used on these engines works really well, and has worked well for others. It consists of a 4-2-1 set of headers and depending on the application a 2" or 2 1/4" system with a Delco cat (std commodore unit), 1 glass packed straight through muffler, and 1 glass packed straight through resonator. Nothing big, not fancy, not expensive and it WORKS
Have a look at this thread

You should never expect to get more effort put into an answer than you put into the question.
I gave legitimate advice. I suggested to search, and also told him what terms to search that will send him to threads that answer all of his questions, and if hed searched first this thread wouldnt exist.
Look at the similarly thought out TD05 thread. You cannot expect a serious, legit and well thought out answer without asking a serious, legit, and well thought out question.

Thanks for the smart answer NitroDann, Search the internet for some intellegent questions? this is the reason I've posted here in the first place, so it may seem like a noob question but it would be good too get a straight honest answer about my problem and not have a "smart ass answer" I'am a newbie in this field of car talk and owning mx5's so do yourself a favour and show some more respect Nitro Dann, even better google it mate.
