How long/many Ks is an OE cat good for ?
I have conflicting advice on this , Best Mufflers reckon the NA6 OE cat flows quite well and is good untill it visibly or audibly spits the dummy , conversely the Granger/Schoemark manual states that "dependant on usage" (ah hem-whatever means) it's good for two or three years max.
So what do you reckon ?

Till it shits itself, got one in the shed from 1989 and it's clear and worked a treat when car was tested by Transport department.
And that was with an aftermerket ecu

Forgot to mention, Best mufflers also said that the NA6 OE cat was worth about $150 in scrap a newby modern aftermarket Hi flow is worth about $15.00 , may have been exagerating a tad though ?

I recently had my original 1990 cat replaced with a Magnaflow high flow. It hadn't collapsed that I could see, casing was good. Had a build up of muck though.
22 years old, with 405,000kms on it.
I replaced it as it was one more thing on my list of things to replace, being so old.

Mines a 92 with 80000 on it , the gaskets are a bit iffy so I'm going to put in new ones next week I'll sus it out and see how clear it is then.
400k , thought they were built to last

That's because the original as in last century, had platinum in them, so they are a good earner for wrecking yards etc.

Yours will last a hundred years at the rate it was going when you bought it!
