Help - Clutch Failure & Squealing Noises

So, a little clutch problem has cropped up as of this afternoon - when I depress the clutch, it makes horrid metal on metal squealing noises and attempts to stall the car.

It makes the same noises and will STILL stall the car, even if its in neutral.

I managed to get home, and on the way home the noise has gotten quieter, and doesn't quite drag the car down to a stall now, but clearly something is amiss.

Everything seems hydraulically fine, although there was a brief moment of no clutch feel, which quickly went away, car has approx 20,000km old slave cylinder, braided line, master cylinder and clutch plate.

Any thoughts on what this could be? I'm willing to pull a gearbox this weekend if need be, but would like a guess of what parts I might need, as I need the car running to go to Tassie the week after.

Could be the spigot bearing (centre of the flywheel) failing. They can make some horrible noises.

I'd agree.

Sounds like the release bearing has seized. this may have damage the pressure plate you wont really know till the box is out

Good point, it might have disintegrated. Although it (and the spigot bearing) should have been replaced when the clutch plate was replaced 20,000km ago.

The plate was only replaced because it was soaking in oil from an oil leak.
Ask Daffyflyer about the oil leak.
