My car has decided to take about 20 minutes or 15ks to get close to warm so at a guess I'd think that my thermostat is on the way out so I called good ole Mazda, - $40 for a frigen thermostat, is there any other brand thats worth a pinch at a sensible cost or is it Mazda or eat drood ?

Thanks for that.
A quick search before I posted also revealed that a member on here had had nothing but trouble with that brand and also that Mania had the OE for $25 but that postage would nearly absorb the cost advantage.
I don't object to to anyone taking a profit I just hate being exploited.

I wouldn't worry about one person's experiences. CPC also make thermostats. Repco have an "up to 50% off" sale until 4 Jan 12. RACQ discounts are also available normally.

Mazda just use Dayco thermostats. I recently brought one online for $22 delivered from this parts supplier. Delivery is slow though.

BP engines are DT27, and you just select the letter for opening temps.
I think B6 engines are DT15, again A or B or C for opening temps. Not 100% sure on the B6 thermostat part number though.
Do the B6s use a giggle pin like BPs/323s?
Gasket is the same for B6/BP, DTG15 from memory.
It cost me $19.75 for the thermostat, gasket and shipping. I also brought the 82C opener, instead of the 88C opener for my 323, since it gets tracktime.

Thanks mate, Repco sale on so only $16.89, job done and done.
The OE thermostat was siezed open didn't need the boiling water to figure this one out.
Dayco Part No is DT27A-BP.
It's a 52mm with 82c oppening. it has a jiggle pin and is offset,
The OE gasket is stainless steel with what looks like a black sealant though it could have been a coating it also plays a part in keeping the thermostat seated.
I have cleaned and reused this with a thin layer of silicon sealing on each side , I'm going to be refilling the coolant tomorrow when this has mainly cold cured.
Two things to note:
One/ The OE aperture is 30mm and the Dayco one is 27mm so I will be keeping a close eye on the temp gauge.
Two/ The construction of the OE one I removed was about twice as sturdy as the Dayco replacement.

hardly worth getting into a lather about- save it for the whales. Where do you buy thermostats- automotive parts suppliers - either specialists or generalists like Bursons. If you buy based on price the process is flawed- a cheap thermostat is not going to use "quality" materials nor a quality system that is actually followed. Dayco is likely to be an ok product. Mazda may well source OEM supplied product and it should be good. I can buy from multiple sources close to home and have the product is not more 30mins. Whats the value of time?

The origional question was reasonable product, reasonable price ? the rest is incidental, so who's lathering ?

Mr Murlock - drives around for 30 minutes and pay $40.
Basho - drives less to parts shop and pay $20.
Both - receive same product. lol Whom is getting better value? Including their own time?
