Timing on a 10 compression ratio

I have heard that the NB8C with 10-1 comp.ratio running on 95 RON responds well to timing advance that is more than spec.
Anyone have any experience with this?

Tks to SAMX5, the '98-'05 MX5 CAS modification is no longer required as he found a $30 COTS solution: use an adjustable timing wheel to the advance timing:

As with any car, if you are running higher than normal compression, then running higher ron fuels and advancing the timing will negate the need for ecu mods. But this will only go so far before you'll need to install a programmable ecu.
Going from 9.5:1 to 10.0:1 isn't a massive jump. So fuel and timing changes will get you there. I'd run 98ron though.

Can I go to say 12-13 btdc safely? What is recommended for 95 RON fuel?
