I just removed heater hose at the firewall for easier spanner access whilst I was in the process of replacing the Ect sensor and when I replace the hose it dripped when I started up I actualy noticed when I checked the bay after a quick run to marvel at how will the engine responded to the new ECTS .

I trimmed the hose and it still leaked when I restarted so I checked the pipe and found I had dented it slightly must have been when I removed the 'I wont come off you cant make me' hose, I have eased out the slight dent mainly and am getting some new hoses (I decided to replace both whilst I'm there they'r 21 years old FFS..

I note theres no leaking inside the car.

As the copper pipe isn't perfect I'm thinking of using hose clamps instead of the Factory springs.

I am also thinking that a little sealant on the join would ne a good idea but haven't got a clue as to what sealant--can anyone advise me ?

Always best to carefully cut old hoses off the heater pipes and get new hoses. As you have just found out, the pipes are very thin and very easily damaged.

Thanks mighty for that , hopefully that will fix it , I'm also wondering how hard the heater is to remove if I have to replace the damn thing , what were they thinking making a hearer core with core connector piping that fragile ?

You'll need to remove most of the dash to get to the heater core. Search on this forum and miata.net for photos and "how to" posts.

I actualy had a bit of a look and after finding a numer of dash out ones came across a post that read ,

"You look under the middle of the dash looking from the pedals towards the passenger side of the car, the heater core has a plastic cover over it. take it off, undo the clamps. Slide the heater core out."

This gave me some hope that there may be a less traumatic way off dealing with this situation if it is a situation , which I'm hoping it aint.

I have no A/C so just maybe this will apply ?? hopefully.

Just while I think about it , I have a tube of the Sellys high temp silicone gasket maker but it's red would this also be suitable or only the black for this application ?

It may be much easier to get the heater core out if there is no aircon.

Selleys red should be OK but I'm not familiar with it. I know the black RTV works, even inside a dishwasher - and that's bluddy hot and caustic.
