So it turns out I have solids and not HLAs in my motor. So my HLA friendly Maruha cams have become paperweights. lol
So what is available for NB8 w/o VVT in a NB8?

Doubt it. Call around for some shims. Perhaps you will be recommended not to run shims that large, im not sure.

So you have Maruha cams for an NA8? If they're F-Cams (= Tomei Poncams) then inlets should have 25292 engraved on them, exhausts 25695.
Resale value on them is pretty good. They cost almost a grand to get them landed here new from Maruha. Why not sell them and buy the right ones for your car?

Yes I have the F-Cams, I purchased them directly from Maruha 3 months ago. They are still in there boxes and never been used. Also purchased the cam gears at the same time. Still new in box also.
And yes I will be selling them to purchase the correct cams, hence the point of this thread. But I have only found Toda cams for non VVT NB8 engines. But at $600 per cam, was gonna find/look at other options.

I do cam kits for the 1.8. I should be able to arrange something for you for about $460 a pair. Depending on the specs on the ones you have now I may be able to work something out for you.
PM me if you're interested,
Cheers

Also Tomei/Maruha do Poncams/F-Cams and Procams for the NB8A. Same price as the NA8 cams except they advise you must swap to shim-under lifters to use them. That adds a lot of $$$ if you choose to use their lifters.

I am a total noob when it comes to SUBs.
If I get cams where the base circle is 3mm smaller than the OEM cams, do I just purchase replace top discs that are 1.5mm thicker than the originals?
Yes I know I will need to check the passage between disc and cam and measure with 0.05mm. Cause it could be 1.55mm or 1.45mm difference.
But it just seems too easy to measure, order, replace. Am I missing something?

You now making up new words big fella?
If I had an early NB I think I would be trying the Ex-Intake mod for fun and it's pretty cheap.

I seem to recall that it's not really of any benefit for Aussie/Japanese cars.
Something about the car's for the US market had different (softer) cam profiles, so they see a benefit, where with AUDM cars it's no real change.

Interdasting is a word stolen from a demotivational picture featuring a teenager with down syndrome, who is in a very professor like pose pondering something.
Yeah exintake is a US thing. In Oz our cars start hardcore ()
