Hey guys,
Just picked up my mx5 the other day and it needs a good service and while im doing that i want to get the timing belt and all the other belts changed also. There is a small oil leak from the back of the rocker cover and a small water leak somewhere also. Any good mechanics that people use in the northern suburbs?
Cheers,

It may be helpful to add some clues about your location.

I guess we are talking about Melb. The MX5 Factory ( Ringwood) are competent but underline get some quotes. If you do the timing belt then water pump is virtually a given but cost is going to be somewhere in the region of $800. Some reckon it is better bet to use OEM belt and pump and some of the repairers only use oem.

Beg's the question - what do you want done?
Specialist in a particular field or a general mechanic for maintenance?

Not northern suburbs, but you should really consider Allmaz in Clayton. Good, solid work that they stand by and cheap.

Much as we love our cars and only want the best, they're dead-easy to work on and parts are common (whole 323 and Ford Laser range from the same era) and cheap. A timing belt, water pump and rocker cover gasket will be a cakewalk for any mechanic.

well i took it to my local mechanic ive used for years. So far his fixed the water leak and changed the rocker cover gasket. All for 300 including labor and parts
. He was happy i brought him a easy tow ork on car rather then my usual Audi's lol.
Next thing that needs to be done is Timing belt and all related belts

What matty said.
I walked 2 absolute novices (never picked up a spanner types) through this exact work in an afternoon and hardly lifted a spanner myself. they were fine, they are that easy.

x3 with Matty and Dann, but refitting the crankshaft pulley after a timing belt change is something that requires special care and they should be made aware of that.
Maranello Pursang Motors, Coburg, is worth asking. Proprietor Bruno is the chief scrutineer for the Alfa club and has dabbled successfully in MX5s with a few of us.

Ooh, definitely give Maranello a go.
Even if you just want to go and gawk at the motoring memorabilia that covers their walls and floors...
They're good guys.
