only reason is,I can get one quicker and cheaper.I understan it has an extra casting on it to bolt alternator to.will mine bolt to this,or would I have to cut it off.is that the only difference?

you should be able to buy a water pump from a number of local sources either ex stock or next day. Mazda spares can confirm if there are different part numbers for pumps ie NA NB etc. A cheap water pump is a bad plan. It is a vital item and better to get either an OEM unit or a well known quality unit- if it fails in service you will struggle to prove bad workmanship and still have to remove and replace- your call.

I can't answer the question, but I can add to the confuision

My 1.8 doesn't have the alternator bracket lug, I presume a 1.6 alternator was put on by a previous owner or mechanic, so i'll guess that a 1.6 WP fits on a 1.8. Stuffed if I know if the opposite its true!

Can't edit the above, meant to say water pump installed not alternator!
