REV Limit

Ok so .. im getting ready to buy a Bee R REv Limiter..

Reason is .. simply because i want flames (just being honest.. i dont care about others opinions).

Im just curious all my research .. points to its bad to hit the rev limit.. no matter what.

But what if the rev limit is set at 3k would it STILL BE BAD??
If so.. how bad.. and why?

Obviously hitting this limit wil never last more than 3-5 seconds.. infact usually 1-2 seconds is enough.

Uh...your car should have a built in rev limiter unless the ecu has been played with. And you can't really "over rev" as it will just bounce at the preset level.

If you just want to be very cautious, just use a rev light. I had one in my Alfa because I had a remapped ecu and I used the shift light to tell me when to change gears to keep the engine at peak power, rather than just rev the daylights out if the engine.

As for setting the rev limit at 3K...you want to drive around like nanna?

dont think you read the post properly mate. Im gonna buy an AFTERMARKET REV LIMITER...

The reason is because this particular rev limiter only has IGNITION CUT and NOT FUEL CUT, therefore shoots out flames upon hitting the limit, Give BEE R REV LIMITER a google and ull see what i mean.

The rev limiter is adjustable from inside the car, so im thinking if i wanna shoot flames out ill set it to 3000 and when im driving normally just chuck it back up to high rpms.

You wont close to shoot flames just by doing that.

I have a full standalone ecu, I tune it myself and ive tuned many others, just an ignition cut rev limiter wont do it.

I doubt it will do any harm to the engine.... BUT it's basically a guarantee to kill the cat, and possibly mufflers etc (unburned fuel basically igniting in the exhaust)

one thing I've always though about the Bee*R limiter.... if it removes the spark, how does it not cause the car to just constantly foul plugs?

This is just plain weird but I really like concept.

So if you cut the ignition in pulses then you get pulses of unburnt fuel in the pipes? It's exactly what normally happens in closed loop running but on a longer cycle time. It could work and cause nno harm

I do remember my father saying he drove his Model A across the Harbour Bridge turning the ignition on off himself to get flames and backfires until he overdid it and blew the exhaust apart.

I dont think you'll get flames if you have a cat?

My track car ran without a cat for a season, and when the tune was not so good, it used to spit flames on overrun.
Doing nothing to the tune but adding the cat back in stopped the flames, with just black smoke puffs coming out instead..

I've found that no-cat plus heel-toe down shifting was causing flames whereas when I was running the cat on the track I'd be told I blow a lot of black smoke under braking or over-run. At Marulan multiple people mentioned that sitting near the stock limiter at the last corner off throttle before entering the straight I was blowing a lot of flame as well. I hope your exhaust is in good condition as mentioned it's pretty violent when it happens and it kills exhaust parts. I've had my resonator break down and I'm on my 3rd muffler in 4 years. That's all stainless pieces too so corrosion wasn't a factor.

Youll def have to take your cat out, but also I doubt you will have enough fuel, but you can only try.

think of all the unburnt fuel, ouch. My mates badly tuned Soarer does twin exhaust flame throws.

I think you should get duel tips :D

I love this idea. Who cares if it hard to do, if it's bad to do, if it's stupid to do. Does it look cool?? Yep :D and that's all that matters. Can't wait to see what happens :)
