Hey,
New to the forum,

I have a 1998 NB8A

Looking at a rebuild kit from ebay USA
the kit says its good for a BP engine 94-97

however, being a 98 BP engine, was there much difference?
looking at the kits from the pictures, they look pretty much the same
(obviously there can be slight differences I know)

but here are the 2 kits im looking at

94-97

99-00

is there any difference in BP engines??? besides a bigger intake manifold for the NB & no CAS?

Why dont you just find out if yours is a 97 or a 99?

what do you mean?

Look for a gasket set for a 98 model?

I was more wondering if either of these kits would be fine, as I cant find a specific 98 model kit.

Theres no such thing as a 98 model mx5.
If its an na, its a 97, if its an nb, its a 99. Mazda never made a 98 build.

My thoughts - which Im happy to be corrected for - is that the USA Miata is usually a year behind Aus MX5

So your 98 MX5 is likely to be the 99 model they talk about.

Its not that we got them early. There isnt a single 98 mx5 on the planet, they ran the 97 na half way into 98 and released the 99 nb half way through 98.

while I'm sure your correct dann, someone looking at the build plate on the car will see 98 if there car was early build nb.

Its like aus delivered 89 na 6 s. theoretically doesn't exist, but some of the early 90 model cars were built in 89 but complianced in 90.

To OP, you'll need the '99-'00 kit as there are head differences, & intake manifolds are not interchangeable without welding, so intake manifold gasket also won't interchange.

My old NA6, number 238, was built Oct '89, complianced Nov '89, & purchased in Nov '89. My understanding is there are NB8As in Australia that were both built & complianced in '98.

Similarly, my Aust delivered NA8 is built Sep '93, complianced Oct '93, rego'd Nov '93, & purchased in Dec '93 - it's a '93 model in Australia, not a '94 model, although in the US it would be called a '94 model. Same with the NB8A.
