Hi guys,
I've just purchased a spare rocker cover, with the intention of paintin it up. Just wondering what methods people have used to paint theres, and if people want to post some pics up? sort of a show off your engine bay/rocker cover thread I guess?

VHT Wrinkle Red or Wrinkle Black would look good.
Wrinkle Red would make it look like an SE's rocker cover.
With the Wrinkle paint, to get the best wrinkle effect you need to bake it in an oven.

I was thinking of doing mine in wrinkle black, but i want to do the Mazda and DOHC part in different color, how should I do that, paint them first and then mask over it to do the black?

I've been wanting to do the same and in wrinkle black - apparently no need to bake that?
I will paint the lettering as well but figured it would be easier to do it after. Just let the rocker cover dry, then use a small syringe to dribble paint into the cavities. Will do it in silver to match the car.

VHT say the engine heat itself will also work... Just needs to be 100 deg for 20 mins.

Did mine in VHT wrinkle black - no need to oven bake, but you could smell it curing when reinstalled on the car.
Prep was just a good clean with metho, applied then dried in the sun. A little help from a hairdryer I think too.

I find that baking after each wrinkle coat produces better/more-pronounced wrinkles.
Also, don't call it a "hairdryer", we get enough crap about the MX5 being a hairdresser's car - it's "an entry-level hot air gun"

+1 but that one looks not to hard (mostly flat and not many crevice)
You should try the intake plenum and rocker-cover on a mr2...lol
here was mine after painting it with the VHT caliper paint (worked a treat)
At first i just painted it and was happy ... but then
now with a POD and changed all the bolts over for stainless Allen bolts (also needs a clean)
took at least 2 weeks after work with the buffing wheel and sand paper
FYI if you go down this path the buffing is easy part.Sanding and prep is long, boring, and hard
also polished alloy needs re-polished or clear coated to keep looking epic
(haven't found a clear coat that keeps it clear they seem to make it a tad milky)
polished engines do look good, after all my MR2 won ToyoShow 2010 best engine bay
haven't looked at pimping my nc due to all the plastic covers but it will probably happen some time
maybe perspex with neon and chrome mmmmm

I took it off to paint while doing the timming belt.
I used the dishwasher to clean it with a bit of extra soap so all the oil was removed
Then I sprayed it and cooked it the oven to make it dry and wrickle up.
If I could do it again I would go black once you get a bit of oil on it its kinda hard to clean off.
