clutch friction point changing? :S

Hi guys, over the last couple of days the friction point on my clutch has changed massively, it used to be around 1/2-3/4 up the full travel of the clutch, but now it seems to be almost on the floor where it initially starts to bite. Also the weight on the peddle seems to have lightened up alot. at first i was thinking the clutch cable was just lose, but now ive noticed the weight has changed, what could affect my cluth peddel like this? clutch did seems like it was on its way out, no slipping, just a high friction point..

There is no clutch cable on an MX-5. It sounds like your clutch hydraulics are failing. Check for leaks at the slave cylinder or master cylinder and check clutch fluid level. Search the forum for the terms underlined.

Likely your clutch slave is dying. I would do something about it sooner than later or you will have difficulty driving the car.
Will probably get better with a bleed but if it's happened suddenly I would suspect something is leaking.

Driving with no clutch at all is completely doable, but for a noob that would suck even for a day. Fix it now you probably only have a few days. Its either the slave or master. Get a new slave and try is because its very easy and fast and cheap to change and its most likely.

bah, i thought they were cable drĂven.. being around the same age as my old suzuki, which was a cable :S any way, will look into it. so a leaking slave or maste cylinder would make the weight change aswell?

Yes.

Had a look earlier, no obvious leakage around the master, so probably the slave, have to have a better look when theres more light tommorrow. ordered a slave already though, as that seems to be the likely issue.

+1 for the slave cylinder
A leaking slave will hold the fluid in the slave dust boot so there is no visible leak - until you squeeze the boot

Yep, and after it gets really bad it starts leaking. What's really annoying is when the fluid is gone, you start your car and can't put it in any gear! Or when you're stopped in traffic and that happens.
