Hello,

Did a search couldnt find what i was looking for.

Looking at installing CAI not for noise or anything else other performance, can any noticible gains be acheived or is just a bling thing?

An autoexe cold side one was referred to in other threads though could not find this.

Any suggestions welcomed.

cheers

have had the autoexe one. the loss in torque is noticeable when you're going from stop to start at traffic lights.

i had the SP motorsport/SMB intake. best intake i've had. the delivery in power and torque through the entire rev range is silky smooth

hmm reduction is concerning for me as i moslty drives on the street, so torque much more important than peak power.

though is there any "real" difference or is it knowing the fact that its there making the diff?

thanks for posting experiences

Most people who've wanted to have already upgraded to Golf R, but there are always a few people considering trading in. There are some amazing R32s out there, especially by a few people on the last forum. Two are supercharged and one is turbocharged and I'd say check out the build threads and the warring tuner shops at Artarmon & Seven Hills. :)

The last forum is a Justin Fox one, so it's got the JDM flavour, so lots of photography and build diary pages, so quite useful if you want to get the bug on a top end exhaust to make the R32 sound even sexier. :)

its a real difference. i've owned 2 short ram intakes, a k&n replica and the SMB. smb wins hands down.

there'd be a lot of fiddling around to create a heat shield since the pod is close by to the headers.

One thing makes more power, and thats more air, whether by having the engine suck harder (cams, headwork) or by getting thicker air in (colder or at a higher pressure). Letting it flow in easier with a pod filter instead of an air box makes it thicker due to a higher pressure but thinner again due to the hot exhaust its sucking from. You basically want to take the air from a high pressure area, that has cold air, and do so with very little restriction. The cowl intakes work well as long as they are sheilded. These are the ones where you cut a hole in the firewall. if it sucks from anywhere above the number plate but in front of the centre of the bonnet its a low pressure area, so its not as good as sucking from the mouth of the bumper or from below the windshield. If its sucking from inside the engine bay its hardly a COLD air intake.

yea fair enough, might have less restriction though still getting hot engine bay air.. so not really a true CAI right?

saw an intake in a pic where it ran completely on the intake side down the front bumper near the fog lights, only downside was that the wiring had to be extended, anyone know which CAI this is?
