This will depend on what is required to be done and how bad different parts are worn.
Is it a NA6 or NA8, never seen and 1.7.

Mine is a na6, Cus the engine might need a rebuild, so better just stroke it at the same time?? I know it's been done in US before, but dun know What will beinvolve , b6 engine just doesn't get the bless like the Bp engine, which got a stroke kit off the shelf =[

From memory there's a few decent thread on miata.net on the subject. I'd suggest having a look there.

i am actually in the process of building a 1.7L motor.
I bought Toda Hi-comp pistons which were 3mm oversize. Giving a total of 1722cc
Usually wouldnt have needed to resleeve, but my engine builder found air bubbles after machining out the block.
So got two new sleeves.

Criss I could have just PMd you back with this info, but the block wont handle a 3mm overbore AND boost, its one or the other.

To the people doing this or wanting to - Why?
Not a facetious question, just curious for your motivations to do this rather than the alternatives that are much easier, cheaper and give better results.

criss, your car is a street car, right? If you want a bit more grunt, why not transplant a 1.8? Rebuilding and boring/stroking the 1.6 will cost a lot.

And to broady,
Have a drive of my all motor 130rwhp 1.6, Its as fun as hell. And maintenance free.
And an exhaust and intake more than evens up the 1.6 vs 1.8 battle. why go to all the effort of a swap?

I don't doubt it at all. 1.8 swap is well documented and not a great amount of effort.

My main reason for doing up the 1.6l is that I already had a set of itb sitting at home. Also a set of headers. So didn't want to get new headers or remake a set of inlet manifolds to match the itb.

It's true that turbo is a easier and cheaper option to increase the power, but even they can both make foe example 150 atwhp, they still feel different, and I like the non turbo feel, also If I go to the turbo route, I have to ditch all the effort I put on the car, I just dun want to see this happen=]
And I believe my 1.6 should be able to keep up with a 1.8, so 1.8 swap is not an option atm, unless I found a cheap one, and I will still do the exact same thing to it, just my 2.2c( gst included)
I might sound silly, but how can u say no to a done up engine with instance respond =]
