OBD-like scanner for NA6 ?

G'day guys, i am aware that OBD-II didnt come into our little cars until around 98, but I've got a little 89 that seems to be a little 'confused' with its ECU ...

little things like coming to a stop sometimes results in a very low idle (Stall) or a normal one (havnt seen a pattern yet)

I know about the led-jumper across the diag terms and count the LED flashs, but i get no flashing at all., so no errors ?? no news is good news ??

Having an Android phone, i was interested in the Bluetooth OBD-II scanner and Torque software, but i know this WILL NOT WORK with my car :)

is there an alternative ?

failing that, is there a way to do a factory-reset of the ecu and then set my idle and spark advance to get smooth running ?

cheers all
J

Sounds like you want the Mazda self diagnosis checker. Won't be easy or cheap to get one as they're Mazda's own equipment. Or you could just pay the $50 fee for having a dealership do a diagnosis check on your car.. A Ford dealership be able to do so too since they used the same equipment for the Ford badged Mazdas like Lasers/Telstars etc.

the System selector also gets used for setting idle & ignition timing too in the service manual.

Have you set the base idle speed to the correct setting?

Appears to be a common problem

There is an article on the MX5 Victoria Club site or search of the big forum for "idle dip" or "base idle"

If the rpm is dipping under braking, I'd be cleaning the IAC valve 1st. It will not show up as a fault if just dirty and getting stuck. 99% the reason why you get a dip in revs while braking.
