Where to buy, replacement coolant pipes.

Postby Ollygt » Sun Jan 30, 2011 9:31 am

And I do mean the pipes, pulling off the the hoses I found that the inlet pipe (the dual pipe thingy)that connects to the water pump is in pretty poor shape it's corroded to the point where even if you cleaned it up it's far too pitted to make a proper seal. Are these easily available?

Are the OEM pretensioned spring clips really that bad?, I never sure if I'm over tightning the screw clamps.

I bought a full set of kevlar hoses from mx5parts.co.uk when one of my heater pipes let go. Was cheaper (including shipping) to but the full set of hoses from there than it was to buy any two from Mazda Australia. Figured having some spares around was probably worth it.

Its actually the metal pipes I'm after, I already have a complete hose set from MX5-mania
Here are the bits I'm after, can you get these at repco or do you have to go genuine for these.

You could try Mania or Mazda direct, but I would go here:

http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info. ... cts_id/904

http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info. ... cts_id/991

Between 3 and 5 days for delivery, freight is reasonable and their prices are great. :D

Thankee, I shall check availability and check price locally first, plus a member here was kind enough to check his parts stock for bits.

Bursons is probably the best local general source and they will be able to tell if they can supply. Mazda OEM are virtually guaranteed to fit and you are likely to get the right parts- sometimes non OE are not correct but if they do not match you can return to your local supply. OE clips work fine.

Those metal pipes don't normally rust out when the car is well maintained, i.e. when someone changes the coolant regularly and uses a proper corrosion inhibitor. So there's a good chance of finding one secondhand, even from a 20 year old car. MX5 Centre in Vic, or Mania in NSW or MX5 Plus in Brisvegas are all worth a call.

I had the same problem, and got mine from mania for like $30 or something (for just the heater pipe). If you have a 1.6 the other thing you are going to need to look at changing is the air valve on the intake manifold (it has two small gauge pipes; one comign from the block, the other coming from the bottom thermostat housing. It is also commonly rusted out, which I think would lead to cold start issues. I have one waiting to go on mine.
