HELP!!!! Ebay short shifter

I had a lower shift boot to replace on my car so I thought I'd be smart and buy a short shifter while I was at it. Didn't seem like a bad idea at the time but I'm having a nightmare fitting it. I'm still trying now and it's a pain in the @ss....

This is this shifter I bought http://cgi.ebay.com.au/90-91-92-97-MAZD ... 519wt_1139

It looks identical to that, I double checked and I have all the parts on there as well as my brand new lower shift boot to install. I can't see any conceivable way to put this in though.
Can someone link me to a tutorial? At the moment I can't drive my car at all... My original stick won't undscrew into two pieces so I cannot reuse it and put the new boot on...

I've looked all over and I can't see any tutorials. The best I could find was a thread on miata net talking about a fuji shifter which looks nearly identical to mine but the thread doesn't go anywhere. http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?p=3126938

Help asap would be fantastic as I still need the car to get to work and in it's current state I'm stuck in limbo

send a PM to MasterZ, he made a really good guide with better photos, but it's no longer on the interwebs.

I'm trying to follow the rx7 one but the problem I'm still having is that the allan key screw end is still too big to use as a locator for the notch on the shifter... It doesn't make any fu(king sense. I'm going over it and over it and the sun is nearly down...
I have all the right pieces here and nomatter what I do it's just not working. This is not good for my self esteem, I feel like I'm stupid...

there is a site on youtube that shows how the shifter fits into the turrent for your model.

Look for MikesPlaceBiz3724 and his video on gear boxes. He has posted a few over the years so look for his gear box servcing video

I am at work now and the Youtube is blocked or I would give your the full sute reference.

He also has a short shifter conversion video .. using the existing shifter ...
