Oils for BP engines

What is everyone using? Brands, grades etc?

What should I be using?
Approx 6 track days pre year.
Location is sunny hot QLD.
145,000km old engine.

Ive always used Shell Helix Ultra.

Of course someone will then say Shell is crap, i use Mobil 1 and someone else will say i once had a bad experience with Mobil i only ever use Castrol GTX, and the whole thing degenerates until someone chimes in with why isnt everyone using Redline? :wink:

Higher viscosity maybe for Queensland. :idea:

If it solely was a track car, then yes I'd toy with using Redline. But being a part road car, part track car. Some cost controlling has to be factored into the equation.

Car will only travel 5000-6000km per year max if that makes any difference.

Another what oils thread heh. If it's being used hard on track then using a higher viscosity oil will minimize shearing. Something like Penrite HPR15 15w60 would be good to go. Or even Penrite HPR10 10w50. Could also get a good oil cooler then any of your preferred oils would be fine.

I use Gulf Western (The Tough Australian) Premium Gold 15w40 (GW recommends this one anyway for BP turbos). I can't fault it in anyway although I don't do any trackwork. Personal experience with my GTR I'd say GW 15w40 is better then Castrol's GTX3 15w40 & much better then Motuls Turbolight 10w40. I schedule the changes for 6500Ks, or 5000Ks if I've been using the big turbo a bit.

I don't care what other people use really, but I would love to see more people use Aussie made. After all, if you happened to be working for an Aussie manufacturing business, you'd want people to buy the products to keep you employed?
